Former Gwinnett Commissioner Shirley Lasseter to Be Sentenced Sept. 5

Posted in Uncategorized

As noted in the Duluth Patch, former Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter pled guilty in May to bribery charges in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. The charges stemmed from Lasseter’s acceptance of a bribe from an undercover FBIagent who posed as a real estate developer seeking to do business in Gwinnett County. Lasseter’s son, John Fanning, also pled guilty to charges relating to the scheme, along with Carl Cain.

Lasseter and her son have been cooperating in an ongoing investigation of Gwinnett County’s government. Her sentencing date has been set for September 5th. Lasseter and her counsel have solicited letters on her behalf for use in sentencing.
